The History of Women with Promise

Our Scholarship program

The WWP scholarship program began in 2018 as part of our commitment to make a difference in the lives of women who need a hand up not a hand out.  Our scholarships are considered an investment into the future for these women.  We offer financial empowerment through access to higher education. We make our decisions expecting our recipients to be successful.

New Applicant Eligibility

  • Be a women who has partnered with a social agency for a minimum of six months
  • Be moving in the direction of independence
  • Is willing to work with a sponsor/mentor throughout her educational experience
    • A sponsor/mentor agrees to work with this applicant throughout her time in school
  • Must be a citizen or permanent legal resident of the United States, or have an immigrations status which makes her eligible for FAFSA
  • Must apply or have been officially accepted into an accredited course at a US institution
    • Support is available for full/part-time students
    • Colleges, Universities or Trade/Vocational Schools are acceptable

How is the scholarship paid?

  • Scholarship awards are for tuition, books and fees and are paid directly to the educational institution
  • Scholarships are paid on a semester/term basis
  • Must demonstrate a critical need for financial assistance
  • Must exhibit a strong desire to attend and complete this program
  • Must have a plan to utilize the course work for career advancement
    • Train for a new career field
    • Enter or re-enter the workforce
    • Upgrade current role

The Application

    • Partner with your sponsor/mentor for support

    • Anticipated educational expenses
  • Information which you will need to answer
    • How will this educational opportunity help move you forward

    • What personal challenges do you anticipate
    • Other information you feel is important to share
  • Application deadlines
    • Rolling application deadlines 6 months prior to class start
    • Applications are reviewed in the order received
    • Anticipated timeline to review and approve is typically 60-90 days
  • Amount of scholarship
    • Each application is reviewed and evaluated on an individual basis
      • Tuition, books and fees are primary goals
      • Awards range from $250 to $2,500
    • Possible reasons for application denial
      • The applicant does not have a mentor/sponsor
      • The applicant has not partnered with a social agency for a minimum of 6 months
      • The chosen course of study is not accredited or job related
      • The applicant has not completed the application process
      • The applicant has not demonstrated a critical financial need
    • Re-applying for the next semester
      • The renewal process is a refresh of the original application and therefore a much shorter process
      • Approval time for a renewal is significantly reduced
      • GPA for previous semester must be 2.75 or higher
